Description
Kalorik 5-Quart Touchscreen Air Fryer FT52328SS: what it is
The FT52328SS is Kalorik’s 5 quart single basket air fryer with a touchscreen and a lit viewing window. The listing publishes 1,500 watts at 120 volts, a temperature range from 90 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, touchscreen digital controls with 10 smart presets, a nonstick coated basket and trivet that are dishwasher safe, a stainless steel exterior, a weight of 10.32 pounds and dimensions of 11.65 inches deep by 11.46 inches wide by 13.5 inches high. It was first listed in July 2023.
Kalorik publishes something more useful than a quart figure, which is a set of concrete capacity examples: 1.5 pounds of frozen fries or nuggets, six servings of wings, three quarter pound burgers, or three eight ounce salmon fillets. Those numbers are far more informative than “5 quarts” for working out whether it will feed a household, and it is worth more manufacturers doing it.
The viewing window, which is the differentiator
Most air fryers are opaque. The only way to check progress is to pull the drawer, which stops the cycle, dumps the heat and adds time. Kalorik’s answer here is a window in the drawer with an internal light behind it.
This sounds trivial and is not. Air frying is a browning process, and browning is judged by eye rather than by a timer. Being able to look at the food without interrupting the cook is the difference between hitting the point you want and overshooting it while the chamber recovers temperature. It is the same reason the glass doors on the larger Kalorik MAXX Flex Trio matter.
Five quarts, and where it sits in the range
Five quarts is the mainstream size for a single basket air fryer and covers two to four people for most dishes. It is a substantial step up from a 2 quart mini such as the Chefman 2-Quart, which handles one serving, and a step down from a 7 quart machine like the Nuwave Brio, which will take a small whole chicken.
The 11.46 inch width is the practical advantage of this size. That is narrow enough to sit between a kettle and a toaster on a normal counter run, which a 16 inch wide machine is not.
Temperature range and controls
The published range starts at 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which is unusually low. That end of the dial is for keeping food warm, proofing dough and gentle dehydrating rather than for cooking, and it is a capability most air fryers in this class do not have. The 400 degree maximum is standard for the category.
Ten smart presets handle the common cases without manual entry. The shake reminder prompts part way through a cycle, which addresses the single most common cause of unevenly cooked air fryer food, namely a pile that never gets turned.
Both the basket and the trivet are nonstick coated and dishwasher safe, which on a machine used several times a week is a bigger factor in whether it gets used than any cooking specification.
Highlights
- 5 quart basket sized for two to four people, with published capacity examples rather than just a volume figure.
- Lit viewing window, so browning can be judged without opening the drawer and losing heat.
- Temperature range from 90 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low end suitable for warming and proofing.
- Touchscreen controls with 10 presets and a shake reminder.
- Nonstick basket and trivet, both dishwasher safe.
- 11.46 inch width, narrow enough for a normal counter run.
- 10.32 pounds, light enough to move or store between uses.
Things To Consider
The rating base is very thin. Fourteen ratings averaging 4.1 stars is not enough to establish anything about reliability, and 4.1 is a middling average even on that tiny sample. This is the single biggest reason for caution on an otherwise well specified machine. Read all fourteen reviews before deciding.
The materials fields in the listing contradict each other. The material and inner material are both recorded as plastic, while the outer material is recorded as stainless steel and Kalorik’s own description sells the stainless finish. A plastic inner chamber is a meaningfully lower specification than the stainless steel interiors on competing machines, and it is worth confirming what the cooking chamber is actually lined with before buying.
Two further fields are simply wrong rather than merely contradictory. The recommended uses field lists only baking, on an appliance sold as an air fryer. The air frying technology field contains the word “True”, which is not a technology. These are record faults, not product faults, but they are a reminder to verify anything that matters.
At 1,500 watts on 120 volts the unit draws around 12.5 amps, which is most of a 15 amp kitchen circuit. Give it an outlet to itself if anything else substantial shares that circuit.
Kalorik’s description uses the language of healthy eating around air frying. What air frying actually does is brown food with little or no added oil. Whether that is healthier depends entirely on what it replaces.
Who should buy it, and who should not
This suits a household of two to four that wants a mainstream sized air fryer, values being able to see the food, and has counter space for a narrow rather than a wide appliance. The temperature range and the dishwasher safe parts are both above average for the class.
Skip it if a large rating base matters, since fourteen reviewers is effectively no data and better documented alternatives exist across the air fryers category. Skip it if two dishes need to cook at different settings, which is what a dual zone machine like the Ninja DZ201 is for. And skip it if a full countertop oven with racks and a baking pan would serve better than a basket.
